Learn more about sacramental preparation at St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Please contact the priest at least six months before your wedding date.
What if I was not married in the Church? Please contact the priest for an appointment. We encourage you to marry in the Church.
What if I have been divorced? Please contact the priest. He will be happy to answer your questions about your situation and help you participate fully in the Church.
Please contact the parish office to schedule your child’s baptism. You may even choose to have your baby’s baptism during Mass. Parents having their first child baptized are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class.
How do we choose godparents? Since the godparent’s role is to assist the parents in passing on the faith, parents should choose someone who will take the role seriously and will be a good role model in the faith for the child. Church law requires that godparents be at least 16 years of age, already Confirmed, and be ‘Practicing Catholics.’ If a godparent is not from our parish, he/she is asked to obtain a “Sponsor’s Certificate” from their home pastor. Please contact the parish office if you have other questions about the role of sponsors or about the sacrament.
This sacrament is available every Saturday from 12:30-1:00 p.m., daily after 8:30 a.m. Mass, or by appointment.
What if I haven’t been to confession in a long time? We encourage you to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation often. If you are returning to the sacrament and are unsure of how to prepare and participate, we invite you to contact the priest for information. He will be glad to help you. You are welcome to make an appointment with the priest.
Anointing of the Sick
Please contact the parish office to arrange for the priest to administer this sacrament. In May and October, Masses with the Anointing of the Sick are celebrated.
Who may receive the sacrament? Any of the faithful who are elderly or have a serious illness may receive this sacrament.
May I receive the sacrament again? It is fitting to receive the sacrament every six months or if your condition worsens, if you recover and become ill again, or if you continue to grow more frail due to age.
Are you interested in joining or returning to the Catholic Church? St. Francis of Assisi Parish encourages you to call to ask questions at any time. Information is presented about the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) Program. RCIA offers instruction for those interested in joining the Catholic Church. Those who have received the sacraments, but have been away from the Church, are welcome to attend RCIA for faith renewal. The RCIA sessions begin in September and continue through Easter. Sessions are held at 7:30-9:00 p.m. every Wednesday in St. Francis Finley Hall. RCIA offers adults the time to study, pray, and discern God’s plan for their lives. Contact the priest or Deacon Vic Satter at 724-348-7145.
